52 Weeks of Color, Part Deux – Seashell Peach

April 14, 2012

Well, I’m on time this week. Woohoo for me!  And because of that, I decided I could fudge on the color a little bit, lol.  I don’t see any peach in this color, I’m sorry.  I can picture it in my mind, like the inside of a conch shell, but the swatch just didn’t do it for me.  And I didn’t edit my hair.  I’m a bad, bad blogger.  *sigh*

Ah well, the good news is that it’s almost time for the Pose Fair!  The event will start at 12pm slt on April 15th and features over 100 posemakers from across the grid.  It’s such a big deal this year, they need two sims to contain all the goodies!  RubyStarlight Writer’s Exposeur is one of my favorite brands and she has some great new poses in store for the fair.  I’d have to blog a helluva lot more to feature all of her stuff, but today I’m using one of her sweeter poses that go right alongside the strong and sexy (and sometimes even skanky, but in a good way) collections she has available.

Newness, NYC and Viewer Woes

March 31, 2012

That moment when you get overly excited about something small?  Yeah, that.  I’m almost bouncing in my chair (okay, fine, I’m actually in my bed) because I’m so eager to share this stuff with you guys!  But I spent most of the evening trying not to tear my hair out as I tried to take this pic.  I installed the newest Firestorm viewer about a week ago and it’s not performing for me nearly as well as the last release.  So, while I tried to play with DoF and some WL settings, SL choked and sputtered and eventually died, but not before I got one snapshot.  One.  So that’s what you’re getting!

So, there’s a new brand in town and I’m in love with the mesh designs!  {bilo} is having a grand opening sale until… April 8th, I think.  All of their mesh items are 100L, tattoos are 50% off and everything else is 50L!  This dress is a combo of mesh and system clothing and I was shocked and elated to see how well they flowed together.  Some of the best fitting mesh items I’ve worn yet!  Goodness… I must really want you to get over there to check them out because I’m actually getting a SLURL for y’all.  LOL

I’m also in love with a couple of new, exclusive releases that you can find at the Dressing Room Blue.  The sleek pony and fedora hair from LoQ and the sweet Atomic skin made me squee and I had to have them.  Lordy mae…  I must be more excited than I thought, I’m all benevolent and stuffs.  Here’s your taxi to TDRB.

Oh!  And I almost forgot:  This New York City sim was lovely.  I’ll definitely head back there if I need another clean, urban backdrop.  (Although, I’m not sure it’s all that New York-y…  Isn’t the LOVE art/statue/thingum in Philly?)

52 Weeks of Color, Part Deux – Aquamarine

March 30, 2012

I had to invite a very special av over for this color of the challenge.  This is her blog debut and she was a little nervous about showing her face in public, but the lovely Beryl Button made for a wonderful model.  (Get it?  They go together because aquamarine is the blue-green version of beryl?  Anyway, that IS how she ended up choosing her name – after deciding that Aquamarine was a bit… flamboyant.)  And don’t ask what they’re doing in the kitchen, Chloe just needed a place to sit so I could use the Exposeur pose I picked up at the 50/50 sale.  Make sure you get over there, the 50L or 50% off sale goes for just two more days.

Of course, RezIpsa Loc came to my rescue for this color by offering a sweet little bodysuit with the sophisticated touch of houndstooth accents.  Just about everything Chloe has on are her old standbys, but Beryl is wearing some new (to me) brands that had some too-good-to-be-true deals on the marketplace.  She’s supposed to be wearing a tank from Petticoat Lane (from Glitterati’s Katey Coppola), but it was taking its sweet time to be delivered.  The Simplestuff pumps were 25L and the jeans from Pd were 10L.  Crazy, huh?  *crosses my fingers and mumbles pleasedon’tbecopybotted pleasedon’tbecopybotted pleasedon’tbecopybotted*

52 Weeks of Color, Part Deux – Avocado

March 29, 2012

You know the saying “Haste makes waste,” right?  Yeah…  that.  I hate rushing through something only to realize all of the things that you did wrong or could have done better.  And yeah, I could redo it, but…  Just don’t judge this pic too harshly, okay?  I actually kind of love it (Chloe’s face is just too sweet!), but there are so many things wrong with it I don’t even know where to start.

Anyhoo…  Avocado!  I’m making my way through the color weeks, even if I am a little behind.

Pure Papillon

March 16, 2011

I’m sure y’all will be happy when I stop using that Pure Juice reference in all of my titles, huh?  LOL   After all the hype of the event, I finally had a chance to try on some of the comfy (read “more me”) clothes that were available.  So I settled down in my e! top and Republic flats and hatched me some butterflies!

Papillon Breedables are open!  And what does that mean to you?  Butterflies, of course!  The creators have been working SO hard on this release and are beyond excited to move out of beta and into real SLife.  And they should be.  They’ve put together such an extensive product.  I’m not big on breedables (buy the creature and then have your life savings sucked away in order to keep them alive), though I’ve had a bunny and a fairy and a horse- no chickens.  But I couldn’t pass up the idea of butterflies.  Don’t ask me why, I don’t know why, but I’m so glad I invested the time to visit the store and read all their materials and OF COURSE, buy some butterflies.  I picked up a Breeding Starter Kit for 199L that contained one male, one female, two plants and one beehive.  The butterflies are very easy to hatch, unlike some breedables that will break if you remove them from inventory incorrectly or if you touch them too soon before they hatch or birth or whatever.  The butterflies work like they should: drag, drop, hatch, butterfly, yay!  They are also fairly easy to control once you have them rezzed and hatched.  You can use their scripted menus or my preferred method, the Control HUD.  I didn’t love having to click on the butterfly after each choice made in the menus, so the HUD was much better for me, though for individual changes you’d have to use the specific butterfly’s menu.  The Control HUD came in a (currently) free box of HUDs and goodies.

And speaking of goodies…  Holy cow.  The creators have put together such a detailed experience for the breeders.  I won’t go into everything here, but let me say that the Papillon butterflies are somewhat of a cross between all the positive aspects of breedables and the fun and adventure of a good RPG.  Genetics and classes and bonuses (breed for that queen, folks!) that you’d get from that combination are placed in this wonderful little eco-community of butterflies, plants and other insects- all with the possibility for adventure!  The thought that went into this little ecosystem is amazing.  There are plants that feed the butterflies in different ways, gardening supplies to help maximize the productivity of those plants and accessories that have various effects on your garden.  My two favorites are the beehive and the psychedelic shroom.  The beehive (this shows some of the detailed thought that went into the creation of this product) has bees, obviously, that go out and kill spiders in your plants so their webs don’t harm your butterflies.  The psychedelic shroom improves your chances of breeding rare or mutated babies!  How fun is that??

I’m getting a little long winded here, but I want to say one more thing.  The accessories and gardening supplies and plants were all created to help your butterflies live and grow happily with the least investment possible.  There’s even a type of plant that increases in value and productivity the longer you own it – and the market for reselling has already emerged.  So buy some butterflies, breed some butterflies, enjoy your butterflies.  You won’t spend all your Lindens because it’s not necessary.

Fashion For Life

March 13, 2011

I stopped over at the Fashion For Life sims today to see how the American Cancer Society affiliated event was going.  I’m feeling antsy and impatient tonight, so although the ridiculously high ARCs of some of the other patrons chased me off the gorgeous black and white sims, one spot of color caught my eye.  I had to grab one of the gorgeous dresses from Vlintuition.  I’ve never heard of this creator before because I’ve never really looked into this style of clothing, but the choli and sari (I hope that’s right, forgive me if it’s not) are really beautifully done.

Hopefully you’re a little more tolerant than I am today and you can make some time to head over to the event.  It’s running until the 22nd, so you still have a few days.  The event seems to be really well organized and tightly associated with not only Relay For Life, as the Clothing Fair has been in the past, but with the ACS itself.  I know it’s difficult to decide where to send your charity dollars, but don’t forget that even in the face of dramatic and visually powerful disasters we’re fighting a much quieter battle with cancer every day.
